Purpose of this policy

1   To recognize the celebration of 50th (or longer) wedding anniversaries, and 90th (or greater) birthdays.

2   Office of the Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat, Province of B.C.

Guiding principles

3   (1) Council will recognize City residents who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary or, if prior recognition has not been given, to the first wedding anniversary beyond the 50th. Additional recognition will be given at the 60th, 65th, and 70th, and each year after.

(2) Special recognition will be given to residents celebrating their 90th birthday or, if recognition has not been previously given, to any birthday above the 90th. Additional recognition will be given at the 95th birthday, and each year after.

(3) The special recognition will be in the form of a certificate which will be forwarded to the person(s) being honoured.

(4) The Executive Assistant is responsible to respond to information on 90th birthdays obtained from the friends and/or family of the celebrant.

(5) The information is forwarded to the office of the Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat, for congratulatory messages from provincial and federal dignitaries.
