1 (1) The Coat of Arms and all its elements is an official symbol of the City of Abbotsford. Council is the custodian of the symbol, directing and controlling its use. Control of the symbol applies to all uses, including commercial applications.
(2) The Coat of Arms and all its elem ents, is used to bestow the honour of the City on individuals. The elements on the Coat of Arms for the City of Abbotsford consist of a “shield” with a crown or a “coronet” at the top, which is mounted on a base or “compartment”.
(3) The shield is green with gold and blue accents surrounding a strawberry flower. The coronet is red brick with alternating silver maple leaves, and stars depicting the Clayburn brick works and our border with the United States. The compartment is decorated with a water symbol, daffodils, and strawberry flowers recognizing our Fraser River, floral, and agricultural heritage. The thunderbird symbol, in gold and red with black outline, sits within the coronet.
(4) The motto “One with the strength of two” or “Unus Cum Viribus Duorum” spans the base of the compartment. Two gold lions, with collars adorned with raspberries, stand on either side of the shield. These figures or “supporters” reflect the City's strength, power, multi-cultural character, and history.
(5) A mounted reproduction of the Coat of Arms may be presented to:
(a) those citizens recognized by City Council for their notable contributions to the and community; and
(b) long-service employees with the City. Consecutive years of service with the former Districts of Abbotsford and Matsqui shall be counted as service to the City of Abbotsford.
(6) All other uses of the Coat of Arms require Council approval.
(7) The corporate seal shall, at all times, display the Coat of Arms and all its elements.
2 (1) The City’s logo mark is designed to reflect the City’s brand attributes of: beauty; vitality; diversity; prosperity; industry and opportunity. The logo is five distinct colours that reflect the attributes and promote an energetic and contemporary look for the City. The logo incorporates colors and design elements that can be used in a number of applications such as signage, stationary, decaling of vehicles, and a wide range of marketing initiatives. It may be reproduced in colour, black and white, or solid white on coloured backgrounds.
(2) The City’s tag line “city in the country” is a statement that celebrates the unique attributes of our City’s character and is used in various applications.
(3) Specific information is detailed in the City’s Graphic Standards and Logo Use Guidelines document.
3 The Mayor’s letterhead may display a full colour representation of the Coat of Arms. A black and white line drawing of the Coat of Arms, and all its elements, or the City’s logo. Currently, the Mayor’s Office has adopted corporate stationery standards and uses the corporate stationery with the popular logo mark.
4 (1) Signage for civic buildings and vehicle decals may feature the City’s logo.
(2) Signage for civic buildings, vehicle decals, and insignia for uniforms may feature the Coat of Arms and all its elements, in colour, and be surrounded by a legend band similar to that used in the seal, subject to Council approval.
5 The central medallion on the Chain of Office shall be a medallion depicting the Coat of Arms, and all its elements, in coloured enamel.
6 The City flag, which displays the shield, shall be displayed in the Council Chamber and outside City Hall.
7 The City’s Tartan is designed to enhance Abbotsford’s identity. The colors used feature a full colour representation of the Coat of Arms. The Tartan is six distinct colours that reflect the attributes and promote the City: "White" represents the City's Dairy Industry; "Red" represents the City's Strawberry, Raspberry, Cranberry and Brick Industries; “Blue” represents the City's Aviation and Blueberry Industries; “Green” represents the City's University and luscious, fertile, green Valley; “Yellow” represents the City's Daffodil and Corn Industries; and “Black” represents the City's Blackberry Industry, rail and road.
8 (1) City Hall - The Coat of Arms, in full colour, shall be displayed in a designated area at City Hall.
(2) Shield - Colour representations of the shield of the Coat of Arms, may appear on ties, scarves, and blazer pocket badges for Councillors and senior personnel. The badge, may be used in the same way.
(3) Pins - Lapel pins, key chains, pens, commemorative plates, medallions, ties, etc., for use by members of Council, senior staff, and presentation to visitors, may feature the City’s logo, coat of arms, or the shield only, with motto, in colour. The City’s name may be included in a line beneath or in a circle around the design.
(4) Tartan - The Tartan incorporates colors and design elements that can be used in a number of applications, such as clothing, tourism merchandise, commercial use for products made in Abbotsford; as a branding tool for the City, and a wide range of marketing initiatives. 13. Commercial
9 (1) The City’s Coat of Arms and all its elements shall not be made available for use in commercial enterprises. The tartan, logo, or shield may be used in commercial enterprises subject to the following conditions:
(a) submission of a sample product containing the reproduction of the tartan or shield;
(b) prior approval from Council; and
(c) one sample from the first production run.
(2) Those who wish to weave and/or produce the cloth for the City of Abbotsford Tartan must submit a request in writing and receive approval from Council prior to weaving and/or producing the cloth.
